You said you didn't like guns. - I don't. Never said I couldn't use them. (с)
I, for one, prefer tomatoes. )) Cucumbers are fine, especially when you're hot and thirsty, but tomatoes taste way better - for me at least. ))) Oh, and sandwiches! Cucumbers are great in sandwiches )))
life is sweet // there's always time for tea and room for cake
Чиффа. What I like in cucumbers is that in summer I can always pick them up in the backyard - and they crack so pleasantly in the mouth... But, well, the same with other vegetables, that grow in my granny's garden))
As for me, I like cucumbers if they don't taste bitter. I eat them without any salt, my Mother wonders - how can I. I also like pickled cucumbers especially in sandwiches and with boiled potatoes. But if I have choice I prefer tomatoes. Also without any salt. )
They are gorgeous with brown brad and tuna. There is also a very nice salad with very thinly sliced (nearly see-through) cucumbers with dressing made from soy souse and crushed red pepper.
_Derek_ nice salad with very thinly sliced (nearly see-through) cucumbers with dressing made from soy souse and crushed red pepper wow, what an interesting recipe! have to check)
Никакун Nice, but quite hot though. You can also add some rice vinegar, sesame oil and ginger to the dressing) And you can also throw some boiled chicken into it...))
I love cucumbers when they are fresh... Actually, I like all the veggies better fresh. Without salt, oil, sour cream, salad dressing or any other additives, just cucumbers. Or tomatoes. Or peppers. Or carrots. Now, if they are not fresh, I like them with sour cream. When I was little, I adored pickles. I would follow the adults around house and beg: "Katy, give, pickle, am? Give?" But I might be outgrowing it now...
Таэлле Yes, salted and pickled cucumbers are different. "Pickled" is the same as "marinated", while "salted" is more of what everyone is used to in Russia.
Minor corrections. And if you don't want me to do it in the future, let me know. Electronic Elricspecies is "вид", as in "Bison bison is an endangered species". The word you probably meant to use is "spices", as in "My favorite spice is majoram."
_Derek_soy souse "Soy sauce." But my, the recipe sounds delicious! I have to try it tonight!
KattyJamison do they have salted cucumbers in the English-speaking world? My experiences of food-shopping abroad tell me that many things are not quite the same - sour cream's not quite сметана, and curd is, I think, not quite творог, and so on.

Shae, What I like in cucumbers is that in summer I can always pick them up in the backyard - and they crack so pleasantly in the mouth... That sounds so wonderful) I started smiling at once, and I feel all warm inside))))
KattyJamison, as for me, I would beg you to continue)) As Чиффа. said, we don't need a place to make the same mistakes again and again)
Таэлле, the sour cream is not exactly "сметана"?! *culture shock* OMG, what other terrible mysteries exist out there, while I'm so insecurely veiled by my ignorance.. *dramatic music playing*
Now, back to cucumbers They SMELL great. I love this feeling, when I enter the kitchen and this fresh, watery and green smell envelopes me... And I guess when you salt them (simply pour salt on them, not cook specially) they smell different..
Personally, I don't like cucumber by themselves, nor with any dressing. I don't mind them in salads though and even think some recipes are made by cucmbers and are nothing without them.
But overall I side with tomatoes. Mmm...
KattyJamison, Таэлле will/can any of you start this topic about "cultural differences" in foodnames, like сметана and sour cream? I think it's much needed...

I wonder, why people think of tomatoes and cucumbers as of... antipodes? ))
They look different, but usually they are put in a salad together, and it's not like one is salty and another is sweet, both are juicy.. Why don't you say that you prefer, I don't know, a beet to a cucumber?))
_Derek_ Your spelling is fantastic as always, beloved. Now I see why you called me in the middle of the day asking about that salad. It was delicious indeed. If I'm not mistaken, you have to have some brown sugar in it, preferrably crushed to powder in the mortar.
[f:]ReesKeyWhy don't you say that you prefer, I don't know, a beet to a cucumber?)) Well, we have beet all year round. As avokadoes, for example. Personally mine preferences come from "soviet" childhood when you can "get" vegetables mostly in-season. So tomatoes and cucmbers appeared together and were fed to me as "eat! It's useful!" Then I hated cucumbers absolutelly so they really were antipodes for me. Now of course it's not relevant, we have any of them all year round and buy what we like, not what is useful. But it's just one of things you get to know as a kid (not conditioned, but get to know by yourself) and take it for granted even if circumstances have changed.
BTW, I like ground (тертая?) beet with garlic and beet cakes (котлеты?) if well done. But I son't like to cook beet, it's awully long... so we buy ready-made.

I don't really like cucumbers, but in my childhood I used to hate them ) Now I can it them with tomatoes in salad, for example, I can say I like it now, heh ) But I can't stand only cucumbers, without anything else, I can't it them even with salt, I found it tasteless, but I don't know why though. Perhaps, it's only my crazy perception ))
Dyx, so practice, more practice - and you'll do less mistakes ))
Kleo Scanti I know, that's why you don't think of them ))) it's just us cucumber haters that go suffering all day long - "oh, why do I actually hate cucumbers??"

I like fresh cucumbers and pickles - although it's difficult for me to eat them without bread. Maybe it's besause of soviet childhood - "food eaten without bread is a waste of resources", as adults said.
Salted cucumbers aren't so tasty for me, except when eaten with boiled potatoes (is it correct for "варёная картошка"?).
Dyxit's so scary to talk in English with others... Oh, it isn't. The scariest thing is to start talking, and then you just talk.
Чиффа.it's just us cucumber haters that go suffering all day long - "oh, why do I hate cucumbers so??" Why don't you just switch to thinking of something you like? Mmmm... Sushi.
I believe it's "so much" not just "so", but I'm not 100% sure.
Kleo Scanti, I cant think about them - I'm sttarting to want them. Immediately. But not now though. Sushi and hot weather don't mix well even in cool places...
Mgm... I've tried to mean not 'так сильно', but something more like "thus" or "where does this strange feeeling comes from, btw"? I'm not sure if I didn't get (bad) calque as a result...
What about tomatoes?
P.S. Hi ^^

However, they go well with tomatoes (and possibly bell peppers and/or radishes), a bit of onion and sour cream (and now I'm officially hungry).

I can say I like it now - them, it's plural
And it's not only yours crazy perceptions. )) It's the same for me.
I hate mistakes >_______< They're driving me mad.
I'm glad to hear it )
Jokes aside, it's one of my favourite vegetables. And I prefer eating them fresh with a rye bread and some salt.

Kleo Scanti, I've never talked in English before, so that's the point (
Then I think "Why do I hate cucumbers?" would work better. Or "Why do I actually hate cucumbers?"
